Nina Dobrev Dishes on Whether Damon Will Lose His Edge This Season
We’re not gonna lie, we kinda like Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) the way they are. It just seems so natural to us that Stefan play the good guy — maybe it’s that adorably coiffed ‘do? And Damon, well... we wouldn’t change much about Damon.
But TVD writers threw us for a loop during the season finale when we saw savior Stefan enter a very dark place. And while we won’t exactly say Damon is, uh, “good,” he’s definitely shown us his more vulnerable side as of late. But what does it all mean for their characters in Season 3?
Nina Dobrev (Elena/Katherine) weighed in on her co-stars’ personality swap. While Nina says Paul Wesley is undeniably stoked for Stefan’s bad boy transformation, does that mean Damon will be forced to step up as Mystic Falls’ go-to good guy? Well, fanggirls and boys, don’t hold your breath for a suddenly sugary-sweet Damon come fall, Nina says.
"Damon will always have a rough, kind of tough side to him, so take that as you will,” she tells Hollywood Crush. “He has redeeming qualities but he's still damaged goods in many ways, as we all are.”
Sounds like despite his brother’s descent into darkness, Damon will still manage to fanangle (fangdangle?) himself into some trouble of his own.
Nina explains it like this: In the end, all the TVD characters will continue to “grow” and “change,” Damon included, but that’s what makes TVD so much fun. Okay, Nina, we’ll have to agree with you there. This Stefan/Damon switcharoo is one we’re very curious to watch play out.
