Gia Allemand: Beautiful
Ashley Hebert: Spunky
Bentley Williams: Misunderstood
Mike Fleiss: Creep
Erica Rose: Tiara
Brad Womack: Good Southern Boy
Emily Maynard: Southern Belle
JP Rosenbaum: Good Guy
Ben Flajnik: Weird
Jake Pavelka: Phony
Vienna Girardi: More Likeable Now
Talk to us about how you gather intel. The sources from whom you get all your spoilers aren’t affiliated with ABC?
Um. They’re so all over the place. Most of them. Pretty much all of them aren’t — no, not really. It’s one of those things where the site has become so big to the point that there’s nothing ABC can do. There are too many people in my ear. There are too many people telling me stuff — that you’ve seen over the past four seasons to be true.
It’s a lot of detective work. There are so many different people and places to factor in. It’s like a giant puzzle, and I’m putting all the pieces together. [Editor’s note: He even gets some of his scoops from ex-girlfriends!]
What is your relationship like with ABC? Have they ever contacted you?
No. Never. And I don’t think they will. I’ve been doing it for two years now. Bachelor Pad 2 will be the fifth consecutive season that I’ve spoiled everything, and not one person from ABC, Next Entertainment, or Warner Brothers has ever contacted me and told me anything. Never told me to stop. Never asked me, “Hey where are you getting your information?” I don’t think they ever will because I’m not doing anything wrong. I’ve never worked for ABC and I never had a contract. The way I look at it is: I’m just a guy with a blog who happens to get information about the show. And I put it on my blog. People can choose to believe what I put on my blog, or they can choose not to. The thing is, when I type something, it probably is coming true. And that’s helped my credibility. They don’t know where it’s coming from, so they don’t know how to stop it. And they don’t know where I’m getting my information, so they can’t do anything. I think publicly, when they do interviews, they can’t say anything. They don’t want any more attention brought upon me than I already have brought upon myself. But I’ve been told by former contestants that they secretly love what I do, because it brings attention to their show. Nothing I do will ever hurt the show. It only helps it. People still want to tune in to see how things play out.
So, why do you love to spoil so much?
The crazy thing is, this is the only show I like to spoil. I don’t like to be spoiled on any of my other shows that I watch, whether scripted or unscripted. I know that there are spoilers out there for Survivor out there every season, but I choose to stay away from them. Same with Apprentice. If I did get spoiled on Apprentice I wouldn’t care too much, because that show is stupid. In Survivor, if you know who wins, then you know who wins each challenge in each episode. This show isn’t about winning or losing. Survivor is. It’s about a million dollars. [Bachelorette] is just goofy and easy to make fun of, because the show takes itself so seriously. Flavor of Love and Rock of Love are the same type of show, but they make fun of themselves. They realize how ridiculous their antics are. They address these people are probably actors and actresses. Everyone on [Bachelorette] has an ulterior motive.
Do you not believe in the show? What are your feelings on it? It seems like a love/hate relationship.
Well I look at it as a job now. It does take up a lot of my time. Gathering these spoilers, and figuring stuff out... There’s no doubt it’s become a second job to me and that’s the way I look at it. I don’t love it or hate it. If you asked my to rank my favorite reality shows to watch I would rank Survivor as number one. American Idol. Dancing With the Stars, I’m sure X Factor is going to slide in there at number four. Celebrity Apprentice at number five, Celebrity Rehab at number six. And I would say Bachelor in terms of enjoyment is number seven. I don’t look at it as enjoyment. I don’t care about these people in terms of what happens to them. I’m not invested in them. I don’t get attached like most of these crazy fans. I don’t know them and I don’t care. If I become friends with them after, then that’s great. But while the show is airing? I honestly don’t care if Ashley finds love. If she does, that’s great. Obviously she has, and I’m glad. Because Ashley is one of the Bachelorettes that I actually really like. I have no problem with her as the Bachelorette. I don’t see how people get so worked up over edits. [...] I don’t get how you can be that dumb. I get a lot of emails from people who get so worked up over the show and I just don’t get it. Yeah, I like to spoil. But if you actually read my column, I try to educate. This is not the way it really is. This is not how it works. I guess growing up in Southern California, and working in radio and in the entertainment industry, I don’t get starstruck by anybody. Especially these people, and I just don’t care. It’s become a job and I like making fun of the show because it’s very easy to make fun of. And that’s the way I look at it. And now obviously, in the last few years, I’ve gotten a lot more national attention, which has led to more viewers, more ads, and more income. I try not to get invested because it’s a job now. But have I become friends with a couple? Sure.
Is this still a second job to you? Or do you have a full-time job as well now?
I’ve always had a full-time job. This has always been a second job to me. I can say that within the next few months we are, um, we have a couple irons in the fire to where I believe that RealitySteve.com is going to become my full-time job. I can say that but I can’t say more than that. We’re working on some really big things that I’m really excited about.
Would you ever considering being the Bachelor?
Oh no. I have NO interest in being on the show. I’ve never had any interest in being in any reality show to be honest with you. But definitely not this show. It’s kind of a silly question because they know who I am. Plus, age-wise, I’m out of their demographic. I’m 36. I just don’t fit with what they’re looking for. Also, if I was on the show I couldn’t blog about it.
If you were a woman, which Bachelor’s season would you have wanted to be on?
The two season I enjoyed the most were Brad’s first season and Charlie O’Connell’s. But if I were a woman, those aren’t the two guys I would be after. Just, as a viewer, I enjoyed them. They were both very real. Charlie’s because they had a live finale and I couldn’t have spoilers on that one. They didn’t have any extravagant dates, the whole season was shot in his hometown in New York. Brad’s season, the ending was the most real. He didn’t choose either of them.
Let’s mix things up a little bit and play a little game of “Screw, Marry, Kill.”
Trista Sutter: Kill (I can’t stand her tweets.)
Jillian Harris: Screw
Ali Fedotowsky: Marry
Michelle Money: Marry
Vienna Girardi: Screw
Michelle Kujawa: Kill
Gia Allemand: Screw
Elizabeth Kitt: Kill
Natalie Getz: Marry (Natalie’s my girl.)
Ashley Hebert: Screw
Ashley Spivey: Definitely marry (My favorite girl in the history of the show.)
Tenley Molzahn: Injure (I wouldn’t kill her. I don’t dislike her.)
Graham Bunn: Marry
Kiptyn Locke: Screw
Bentley Williams: Kill
Give us three words to describe Ashley’s season?
Dramatic. Emotional. And... uh, I can’t even think of a word to describe it. I want to say something like... laborious? It just seemed like she was laboring through this whole season. There was just always something she so emotional about.
What are you most looking forward to in Season 2 of Bachelor Pad?
Definitely the Kasey-Vienna-Jake triangle. Because Jake is the biggest fake and the biggest phony and the biggest poser in the entire history of the show. And I really am beginning to like Kasey ever since his season ended. I think his Guard and Protect Hearts Inc. is a really cool non-profit organization that he started. And I’ve seen that guy in a different light now with that. I think he got a weird edit on Ali’s season. They made him out to be a weird stalker creepy guy. But he turned that into a positive with his non-profit. Having seen Jake in the one-on-one interview with Vienna, I think I understand her a lot more. She and Kasey seemed to be an actual couple to make it on that show. And then you see a different side of Jake. He goes on DWTS, does the Famous Food show. Doing Drop Dead Diva. His whole goal from the beginning was to be back on TV. If he would have just admitted that from the get-go and not tried to pretend that he wasn’t, then I wouldn’t have had as much of a problem with him as I do. He’s very insincere and I just don’t like the guy. I’ve never liked him. I’m glad Kasey and Vienna outlasted him on the show. I’m really disappointed that they didn’t make it to the finals on the show. I was hoping they would. And um, I’m definitely looking forward to watching Jake squirm in the house. [...] I’m glad ABC convinced him to do the show, because it’s going to make him look even worse.
I asked Vienna back in April if Jake has ever contacted her to apologize, which he hasn’t. But then on TV, he does. He waits a year later to come on and mend the fence. That just shows what kind of guy he is.
What’s the most OMG-worthy or shocking moment coming up in this season of Bachelor Pad?
I think the Holly-Michael-Blake triangle is going to be really kind of crazy to watch. Because Holly is 100% in a relationship with Blake since the show has ended. It started on the show yet she has to go back and film the live finale with Michael as her partner. I don’t know their dynamic. I don’t know if Michael has moved on. Michael might have a girlfriend, I have no idea. I think it’s going to be really interesting to watch how they act on the show. I mean, the guy wins two challenges, and picks Holly both times. I’ve got to think this guy still has feelings for the woman who broke their engagement off. Yet, he still has to deal with her hooking up with Blake and having this relationship. But they’re still going to try to win money. That’s going to be awkward. As long as Holly doesn’t win the money, I’ll be happy.
Are you excited for the Bachelorette finale?
You know, I don’t know these people. I don’t wish these people to break up. But this isn’t a normal way to meet somebody. There’s a reason that only two couples have ever gotten married. Ali and Roberto will be three. I think the one major thing that Ashlely and JP have going for them, is that they’re both on the east coast. Why can’t they have people in the same city as the Bachelor(ette)? You’re asking these people to basically pack up their life or do long distance their entire life. And trust me: My last three relationships have been long distance and none of them have worked out because of the distance. I think the fact that Ashley grew up on the east coast and that Ashley’s going to move to New York is a good sign. If she ended up with Ben, that would have been a bitch. To pack up and move across the country with a guy she’s been with for six weeks? That’s a lot to ask.
If there’s one thing the world could know about Reality Steve that they’d be surprised to hear, what would it be?
That Reality Steve is not Steve Carbone, probably. People seem to think — I mean, I’ve very sarcastic in really life, I always have been — but Reality Steve is very much an exaggerated version of Steve Carbone. I think a lot of people think that I am that guy that they read. And I’m that brash and jerky at times — and just an a**hole. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m a very nice guy. I’m one of the good guys.
