5 Things We Learned About Hart of Dixie at the 2011 TCA

We’re so looking forward to some southern comfort when Hart of Dixie premieres Monday, September 26 on the CW! The oh-so-good looking cast — including The OC’s Rachel Bilson and Friday Night Lights’ Scott Porter — made an appearance at the 2011 TCA Summer Press Tour to preview the hot new show. Dixie follows Zoe Hart (Bilson), a no-nonsense NYC doctor whose career takes an unexpected turn when she ends up living in the supertraditional small town of Bluebell, Alabama. Here’s what to expect from this buzzworthy new show!

1. It Will Have a Dixieland Soundtrack.

Lady Antebellum’s “Perfect Day” currently serves as the show’s promo theme, but it most likely won’t be the official theme song. However, executive producer Len Goldstein says there will be a ton of up-and-coming country music on the show’s soundtrack - including local band Beta Radio out of Wilmington, North Carolina, where the pilot was shot.

2. It’s a TV family reunion!

“I knew if I came back [to television], it would be with Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage," Rachel Bilson said of working again with the OC producing team. Though she dabbled in film for a while after the show ended, she said she jumped at the first opportunity to reunite with her TV family.

3. Zoe Hart is not so different from Summer Roberts

“She’s very smart and motivated,” Rachel said of her character on Heart of Dixie, “But she doesn’t have the best tact.” Expect snark a-plenty from this fish out of water, and “no bedside manner.” Zoe Hart: just like Gregory House, but with better shoes.

4. It’s filmed in L.A, not LA

Though the pilot episode was shot on location in North Carolina, the rest of the first season was filmed on the Warner Brothers lot in Los Angeles. The whole town of Bluebell was built on the lot - including a real lagoon! Ah, the magic of showbiz.

5. There are some wild guest stars!

In the pilot episode, Zoe has an unfortunate run-in with an alligator. Rachel says the gator - named Burt Reynolds - was “the best co-star ever” - even though he got a bit unruly in between takes! However, a “very well-trained bullfrog” will appear in episode two - probably a relief for Rachel and co-star Scott Porter!
