The New Girl’s Zooey Deschanel Is Adork-able at the 2011 TCAs
Could Zooey Deschanel be any more adorable? That was literally a question asked of the star of Fox’s new comedy The New Girl at the 2011 TCA Summer Press Tour today. The actress — dressed in a too-cute retro polka-dot dress blushed and plugged her ears — and of course, became even more adorable in the process. “My mother told me to cover my ears whenever someone pays me a compliment,” she laughed.
Deschanel — who, yes, is Bones star Emily Deschanel’s little sister — stars as Jess on the new show, and brings her signature quirkiness to the role. “I don’t think we could do the show without Zooey,” said creator Liz Meriwether. Jess, while a little spacy, “has a very positive take on the world, but is almost too in touch with her emotions,” says Deschanel. Jess also has a penchant for spontaneously breaking into song, which the part-time musician (her band She & Him will be releasing a Christmas later this year) could seriously get down with.
As for how similar Jess will be to Zooey’s breakout role as Summer in the 2009 indie flick 500 Days of Summer? “Well, they look alike.” quipped Zooey. You don’t say!
