It’s true that both ABC Family’s The Lying Game and CW’s Ringer feature girls who assume their twin sister’s identity, but the similarities stop there. First of all, TLG takes place in high school, with a backdrop of football games, snarky cheerleaders, and people breaking into song-and-dance numbers for no reason (oh wait that’s Glee). Second of all, TLG will be one-part mystery and five-parts teen drama-thon — how can you go wrong?
During the Television Critics Association press tour for The Lying Game, executive producer Charles Pratt, Jr. said, “I actually haven’t seen [Ringer], but I read the premise, and whether it helps us or hurts us I don’t know, we’ll leave it up to viewer. Essentially, the shows are very different. We’re not really thinking about it one way or another.”
Pratt went on to say that he sees more similarities between The Lying Game and ABC Fam’s current hit Pretty Little Liars, which is also based on a series of novels by Sara Shepard. Sounds like good news to us — after all, Pretty Little Liars is one of the best shows on our TiVo!
One thing’s for sure: The Lying Game has a major head-start on Ringer — it premiers Monday August 15th, and Ringer doesn’t debut until Thursday, September 15th!
