Justin Chambers Doubts Grey’s Anatomy Can Continue Without Meredith
Justin Chambers (Alex Karev) is among the original cast members of Grey's Anatomywhose contracts expire at the close of this season, but while series creator Shonda Rhimes insists the show will go on, Justin is expressing some doubts about its longevity sans a certain title character.
Justin has yet to hash out the terms of his renegotiation, but, as the hunky TV doc explains, he's quite grateful for his eight year ride as the d-bag with the heart of gold "I don’t know if I’ll go farther," he told TV Line doubtfully. "I don’t know if the show will go farther. When we get to that point, we’ll go from there."
Like the other actors who have spoken on the show's swan song, for Justin it's all about the audience getting what they want from a satisfying conclusion for their fave characters.
"It’s possible [it could go on], but I doubt it," he added of the show continuing without the original cast members, specifically the title character. "Meredith is the voice. We need that voice — I do think that. That’s a big part of it."
Wow! That's a pretty big endorsement for Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), and, we guess, a pretty harsh diss for Chyler Leigh (Lexie Grey), largely speculated as a perfect candidate to take over as the Grey in Grey's Anatomy. Shonda has echoed Justin's sentiments, though, saying that Meredith is the one and only Grey for her, but can that possibly continue without Ellen Pompeo on board? Will future seasons simply be a narration free-for-all?
Savor what may be the last season as we know it when Grey's Anatomy premieres September 22nd on ABC. Fun fact: The second half of the two-hour premiere will be the show's 150th episode! Congrats, team!
