Derek Hough: Leaving DWTS Gave Me “Inspiration” to Return
We knew our favorite showoff couldn’t stay away for long! Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough took a spring break after winning last fall’s Season 11 with Jennifer Grey. He left to shoot the dance movie Cobu 3D and, really, just give someone else a chance after his record three wins — including back-to-back mirror ball trophies for seasons 10 and 11.
Derek has already confirmed that he’s coming back for DWTS Season 13 — which starts on Sept. 19 — and he told People magazine why he’s returning.
"When we're doing the show we're in the bubble and we get into the stress and the drama and all of the behind the scenes stuff," Derek said. "It was good for me to take a season off and see what he audience sees. It gave me a new boost and inspiration to want to do some great things."
Translation: He was jealous of his best friend, Mark Ballas, who got all the “you’re an amazing choreographer” compliments, and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who dominated the “you’re so hot” discussion.
But now he’s back and more inspired than ever, which can only mean great things for DWTS fans. "I will hopefully live up to expectations and do a good job.” But if Derek wins a fourth time, will trophy-free Maks be able to stand it?
