The festival’s artistic director and former New York City Ballet principal Damian Woetzel had high hopes for the new initiative. “There will be a lot of star power in the house,” he told the local paper Vail Daily. “You'll be able to see the stars up close. People are used to admiring them [on TV], but they'll be right in front of you, which is fantastic. [This concept] has never been done before. It's a great opportunity to celebrate the dance festival.”
One of the featured Dance TV performers was Season 7 runner-up Kent Boyd, who embraced the festival's mission whole-heartedly. “Dance is getting so hot right now. All these dance shows on TV are opening the eyes of America to teach people what good dancing is,” Boyd said.
In addition to Kent, Woetzel pulled in a whole slew of reality TV dancers including Allison Holker and Lauren Froderman from SYTYCD, Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts from Dancing With the Stars, and Quest Crew, the Season 3 winners of America’s Best Dance Crew.
New York City Ballet’s Tiler Peck and Robbie Fairchild also performed, rounding out an evening jam-packed with memorable dancing and personalities.
