How Does She Do It? Sarah Jessica Parker Talks Movies, Marriage, and Motherhood
It's natural to associate Sarah Jessica Parker with her famous love-starved TV persona Carrie Bradshaw, but at the premiere for her upcoming film I Don't Know How She Does It, she proved they couldn't have less in common — not counting their penchants for Manolo Blahniks, of course. Wetpaint Entertainment was on the scene as she opened up about the rigors and rewards of raising a family.
"I love being a mother and I love being a wife," the Sex and the City star dished on the red carpet. "But still I am challenged by it."
Sarah, who plays the role of stressed-out working mom and family breadwinner Kate Reddy in the new flick, admits that she wrestles with the same issues as her film character as she juggles her three most important real-life roles: mom, wife, and actress.
"I fall short every day," she admits, "but you just have to get up and start the day with some promise and a little optimism. I approach every day with a fresh start with enormous possibilities and I muddle through … I just muddle through."
Sarah and her husband Matthew Broderick have been married for almost 15 years, and have three children together — 8-year-old James Wilkie and 2-year-old twin girls Loretta and Tabitha — whom they raise amidst the hustle and bustle of New York City.
"I know now how much time it takes to get the kids out of the house in the morning, and I still do it at the last minute," she laughs. "So, I've learned nothing!"
All kidding aside, Sarah has come a long way, thanks to other fabulous, hard-working women who have inspired her. "Women can talk on the phone, tie a shoe, and pack a lunch, and change a diaper, and it's just what we're naturally predisposed to doing," she says. "I've learned a lot from other mothers."
I Don't Know How She Does It, which is scheduled to hit theaters nationwide on Friday, Sept. 16, also stars Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Kelsey Grammer, Christina Hendricks, and Olivia Munn.
