Rutina Wesley ended Season 4 of True Blood with a bang (literally), and now that she on hiatus from Bon Temps, she’s back in New York performing in the Broadway play The Submission.
Rutina sat down with Broadway.com to chat about her new play, but let’s get real — we want to know about this girl’s theater nerd love-life.
Rutina met her husband, Jacob Fishel, when they were both at Julliard, and six years later they’re still head-over-heels for each other. “He’s one of the most amazing human beings I’ve met on this earth.” Rutina says.
“He’s smart, he’s talented, and he’s a gentleman. He’s not that guy that’s trying to hit on you. He doesn’t try. He doesn’t have to do anything. He just has to stand there and you’re like, ‘Ohhh, those blue eyes. I’m done.’ There are not a lot of good people out there. I’m very lucky that I met him, we fell in love and six years in we’re married and we’re going strong. It’s kind of amazing how time flies when you’re happy.”
So, is Rutina’s perfect hubby on board with all the craziness that comes part-in-parcel with work on True Blood (bludgeoning Franklin’s head with a mace comes to mind)?
“He completely supports me in everything I do and I think it helps that he’s an actor as well,” Rutina admits. “At the end of the day, I come home to him. There are a couple of things he might not have watched, but for the most part he sits down with me and we watch the show together. It’s great to have someone that’s that supportive of you.”
So does Rutina have a hard time keeping her work life and home life separate? “I had a hard time the first year leaving Tara at work,” she admits. “I’d come home and I’d just have this funky Tara energy and he’d be like, ‘What is this? Can I have my wife back please?’ It was hilarious.”
Aw, we’re thrilled Rutina’s in such a loving relationship! Minus the times she comes home and tells her husband to eff off, Tara-style.
