The X Factor

Don’t Sing It! Simon Cowell Reveals Five Songs He Never Wants to Hear in Auditions

The highly anticipated premiere of The X Factor US is nigh. How can we tell? The onslaught of scoop, videos, and interviews has begun! Well, that and the fact that we have it marked on our calendars.

In Simon Cowell’s conference call courtesy of Fox on Tuesday, September 13, he addressed how The X Factor is different from other talent competitions, what it’s like working with Paula Abdul again (“It's like getting your old dog back from the pound.”), and perhaps the funniest: What songs he NEVER wants to hear people audition with.

So which melodious numbers made the list? Read and weep!

- R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly"
- Etta James' "At Last" ("I'm allergic to it," he says.)
- The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" ("Whoever said that was my favorite song was joking.")
- Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours"
- John Legend's "Ordinary People" ("It's never as good as the original.")

Jukebox hits? More like Nuke-box. If you want to avoid the mushroom cloud, auditioners, stick to “Summertime!”
