Former Housewife Michaele Salahi: Why She Chose Journey Guitarist Over Tareq
For some reason, we can’t stop following the drama of former Real Housewives of DC star Michaele Salahi (a.k.a. White House party crasher extraordinaire). First, her hubby Tareq reported her missing (we later found out she had secretly run away with her lover, Journey guitarist Neal Schon, and didn’t want Tareq to know her whereabouts). Shortly after he discovered the truth, Tareq threatened divorce and told TMZ he’d already changed the locks on the couple’s home.
Running away with a former flame seems pretty shady to us, but Michaele and Neal — who had a brief hook-up over 15 years ago — have no shame about it. Neal told The Daily Beast of their romance: "It's like a fairy tale. It is, it really is. I'm very happy, very happy after waiting for her for 15 years."
While she was doing research for her book Cirque du Salahi, author Diane Dimond says Michaele explained why she originally chose Tareq over Neal, saying she didn’t think she could “keep up” with Neal’s rockstar lifestyle. Now that he’s settled down, Michaele says she’s realized he’s the one she wants to be with.
So, how did this come to be? The former reality star says she had been texting with Neal “for awhile” without Tareq knowing. Then, earlier this month Michaele and Tareq were backstage — as a couple — at one of Neal’s concerts, where Michaele gave Neal what Tareq thought was a playful kiss on the cheek. (The footage was later released to TMZ.)
Neal, who was just married two months ago himself, explains what happened after the backstage smooch:
"… She takes off her wedding ring, OK, right in front of Tareq — takes it off, And then she proceeds to come into my dressing room where I'm sitting down ... And she looks down at me like she's standing on stilts and says, "I love YOU. And, that's never gonna change. And when that happened I said, 'Get over here! This has taken 15 years!' "
Party crasher turned homewrecker? This girl’s building quite a reputation!
