The Biggest Logic Fails in The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 2: “The Hybrid”

The Vampire Diaries is a show where witches can bring back people from the dead, vampires kiss humans instead of ripping their throats out, and werewolves have silky smooth chests when they haven’t transformed. And we accept all of this without the blink of the eye. Yet it’s the little things that make us scoff and say, “that would never happen.” Check out the biggest logic fails from Season 3, Episode 2, “The Hybrid.”

4. Trace elements
We know Sheriff Forbes is a badass law enforcement officer who rarely kills innocent bystanders, but the Mystic Falls Police Department needs to share its phone tracer with the FBI. Not only was Liz able to track the cell phone call after it had already taken place, she narrowed down its location. Okay, it’s not that accurate. Tennessee is a big state. Actually, never mind about sharing that device, Sheriff. We assume you just Bing-ed the area code.

3. Bonnie’s M.I.A.
While we know Jeremy and Matt needed some alone time to develop their bromance, we just can’t believe Bonnie’s been chilling with her random relatives this whole time. First of all, we’ve never seen her father, and now we’re supposed to accept that he whisked her away on some months-long family reunion where she can only communicate by MiFi? Our theory is that she heard about this bitchin’ new coven of witches that use crystals and is investigating Chance Harbor, Washington, to see if they have any hybrid-killing spells in their grimoires.

2. Tyler has a werewolf-camp map on his phone
Elena: “Hey Tyler, I know we never talk, but you’re banging my bestie now, so that means I can ask you for a favor, right?”
Tyler: “Yeah, sure. This is totally normal for us to sit at the Mystic Grill together.”
Elena: “You hung out with a werewolf pack for roughly 24 hours before summer started, so you know all the places they camp, right?”
Tyler: “I don’t find it strange at all that you’re requesting this information. How specific of a location do you need?”
Elena: “Tennessee.”
Tyler: “Oh good. There is exactly one werewolf campground in Tennessee. If you’d said Montana, you would’ve been out of luck.”

1. Want to come on a camping trip?
It’s the full moon, right? We see Tyler change, and Alaric makes a big deal to Elena about how they need to be out of there before nighttime and such. But that one lady werewolf brings her human boyfriend along for a trip in the middle of the woods with her wolf pack? Um, no. Unless the real reason she was mad at Klaus for biting him was because she wanted to do it first.
