Box Office Recap: Dolphin Tale Is Tops

Out with the new, in with the old. Last weekend’s top new releases dominated again at the box office, shutting out the movies that made their debut on Friday.

1. Dolphin Tale: $14.2 billion
2. Moneyball: $12.5 million
3. The Lion King 3-D: $11.1 million
4. 50/50: $8.9 million
5. Courageous: $8.8 million

In a bit of an upset, Dolphin Tale, Moneyball, and The Lion King 3-D held the top three spots for the second week in a row. 50/50, Dream House, and What’s Your Number? could hardly even compete, despite the big names starring in them. That’s right, Simba in 3-D beat out Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Daniel Craig, and Anna Faris. Well, hakuna matata.
