“It’s very humbling,” the Irish dancer from Dublin said about suddenly becoming DWTS’ hottest new pro.
“Someone even set up a fan page for me, it’s crazy! I went on there and sent a thank you message but I don’t go on there as soon as I get up in the morning. I don’t want to get obsessed with it,” he explained.
“It’s nice that we’re entertaining people,” said Tristan, who said he’s getting used to the attention but it came as a surprise.
“It doesn’t embarrass me but it’s not something I expected. My friends back home have made fun of me a bit, but it’s just friendly banter. I’m getting joking messages from my mates asking if I’m busy ‘putting on my dancing shoes,’” he laughed.
“It’s fun – I’m still just trying to get used to it, I’ve been teaching for a long time but I’ve never experienced anything like this.”
Having moved to the U.S. for the show, Tristan naturally wasn’t familiar with most of the celebrity contestants, even his partner, Nancy Grace.
“I didn’t know who Nancy was before so it’s just another person for me,” he explained.
“The attention is grand, it’s not been affecting my life in a bad way and no one is being intrusive.”
“It’s nice to be able to put that work in and then talk about it afterwards,” Tristan continued. “It’s like meeting your mates in the pub to talk about your work day, only this time it’s just to the press and on TV.”
Let’s hope both Tristan and Nancy stick around for the long haul so that his star will rise even more!
