American Idol’s Lee DeWyze Dropped From Record Label

Not every American Idol is having a record-breaking week like young Scotty McCreery. The Hollywood Reporter says that RCA has dropped Lee DeWyze from their label. Lee, American Idol’s Season 9 winner, sold a meager 168,000 copies of his latest album, Live It Up.

RCA — home to Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jordin Sparks — is used to platinum hits and Grammy noms. But Lee’s not the first Idol to be dropped from a label after only one album. Season 5’s Taylor Hicks sold a solid 750,000 copies of his debut album before being dropped from Arista.

However, Lee’s show will go on, and it will soon be a duet! A source tells THR that Lee’s in “a good place” right now as he records new music and plans his wedding to model Joanna Walsh.
