Finally! Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Introduce ”Dembabies”
Mariah Carey's journey to motherhood has been a long and taxing one — which made her joy all the more evident as she introduced the world to her twin babies (collectively nicknamed "dembabies") on a special interview with 20/20 on Friday, October 21.
The best-selling female artist of the millennium and her husband, TV personality Nick Cannon, welcomed twins Monroe ("Roe") and Moroccan Scott ("Roc") into the world back on April 30, 2011 — which happens to be Mariah and Nick's third wedding anniversary — but the couple have been private about the new additions into their family, making the 20/20 interview the babies' first public appearance.
In the interview, the couple revealed the tumultuous nature of the pregnancy — Mariah had a miscarriage before ultimately conceiving Monroe and Roc, and tried acupuncture, fertility treatments, and hormones to conceive. Given Carey's age, and the fact that she was carrying twins, the pregnancy involved a host of issues: lots of bed rest, hospital visits, gestational diabetes, and taking additional medication to maintain her babies' health. During the birth, Nick played a live version of Mariah's "Fantasy" — a live version because, in signature diva style, Mariah wanted her babies to be born to the sound of applause. (Could we love her any more?)
The babies' official site (because obviously, they need one), Dembabies.com, features photos of the adorable twins, and a statement from Nick and Mariah, who say: "We are so elated to finally be able to show you some pictures of the beloved additions to our family... Parenthood is absolutely the most life changing experience we could ever have imagined. The love we feel for these babies is above and beyond anything we'd ever dreamed of."
The happy family is truly a vision of love — and we can't wait for Roe and Roc to grow up and become the record-slaying, chart-topping, melismatic pop stars they're destined to be.
