Lea Michele Named One of Glamour Magazine’s Women of the Year

Here’s one instance in which calling Lea Michele the D-word isn’t a bad thing! The Glee star has been named one of Glamour's Women of the Year for oh-so-perfectly embodying the spirit of "The Diva Next Door" as Rachel Berry. Her Spring Awakening and Glee co-star Jonathan Groff (Jesse) praised her ability to say “eff you” to the industry standards of the way girls are "supposed to look" and become her own person.

And Lea bestowed similar praise to her character in an interview with the mag: "Rachel doesn’t look like everyone else...but her confidence takes her past that; she overcomes, you know?"

True. Rachel isn’t your average high schooler, overly ambitious with a wardrobe our grandma would be proud of. But we’re not totally convinced that little miss fashionista Lea is exactly shaking up Hollywood with her "different look,” unless we’re talking about the much-talked about nose job she never got — which like, fine, let's go with it.

We will give kudos to Lea for taking the role Ryan Murphy wrote for her after seeing her star in Spring Awakening and running with it further than anyone possibly imagined. Ryan touts her as an extraordinary talent — a mix between Patti LuPone and Barbara Streisand, which we're pretty sure Rachel Berry would squeal with glee over. But Lea insists she uses whatever diva power she has for good.

"Women in powerful positions get labeled with the D word, but you have to use your diva-ness for good as a way to show your strengths," she explained. "I have this fire in me...and it’s only getting stronger."
