The X Factor USA Controversies: The Judges Fire Back!

The inaugural season of The X Factor USA has had its fair share of controversies and we're barely two weeks into the live show round. Between Dexter Haygood claiming he bargained his way off the show because he was unhappy with his song choices, Stacy Francis getting criticized for being "too successful" before she was on the show, and Paula Abdul, in a complete loss of mental function, kicking off those adorable Brewer Boys who SHOULD have won the whole competition (okay, maybe that's just our issue), the production is under quite a bit of fire.

The judges recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly to dish on the good, the bad, and the crazy behind everyone's X Factor beef, so let's cut to the chase, shall we?

First of all, Perez Hilton is basically leading a group of minions against Stacy Francis because she had a seemingly successful professional career prior to doing the show. But, like, she wasn't actually famous and there are no rules against people who have performed for Tom Cruise competing, so what's the big deal?

Says Simon Cowell, "It does feel like she’s being picked on a bit. We never said that you couldn’t have had a career in the past. It’s absurd. Many competitions I’ve done, [the contestants] have had record deals, they’ve tried musicals. She never hid it from us. I couldn’t care less."

The other judges echoed his sentiments and even chalked up Stacy's ability and professionalism to her previous experience.

As for Dexter claiming he rigged his early exit to focus on non-Katy Perry-related rock and roll? "It’s absolutely crazy," Simon dismissed.

"Actually, it’s all true. I’m his manager," host and non-manager, Steve Jones replied. Is that the hint of a snarky bone we sense in Steve? Maybe the Welsh wunderkind has a personality after all.

The judges also confirmed that America will have absolute power over who stays and who goes probably by the semi-final rounds. Although, it would be kind of hilarious if all the groups were sent home first and then Paula just had to ride around in circles on the crazy train twiddling her thumbs for the last two months of the season...
