Logic Fails From The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 9, “Homecoming”
The Vampire Diaries is a show where witches can bring back people from the dead, vampires kiss humans instead of ripping their throats out, and werewolves have silky smooth chests when they haven’t transformed. And we accept all of this without the blink of the eye. Yet it’s the little things that make us scoff and say, “that would never happen.” Check out the biggest logic fails from Season 3, Episode 9, “Homecoming.”
Rebekah has to go to the dance with Matt There’s nothing wrong with Matt. Matt’s great. But how is Rebekah scrambling for a date at the last minute? A conversation between two random Mystic Falls High School seniors: “Dude, have you seen that totally hot new girl who does all the back flips and stuff? Should I ask her to homecoming?” “Nah, dude, why don’t you just ask that chick who will probably mysteriously disappear in a week and no one will ever mention again?” “Good plan. Thank you for saving me from myself and some possibly nasty hickeys.”
And since when is Matt cool with dating vampires? Hello? Remember Caroline? Let us refresh your memory: She’s the girl you were totally in love with before you found out she was vampire. Then you ditched her faster than she can vamp across the school gym. But some new vamp girl comes along and all of a sudden you have no problem buying a corsage and donning a suit — even when you’re not in cahoots with her mother?
Camera phone We buy that Klaus would be skeptical when Stefan told him Papa Original had been killed. After all, he’s seen his compelled bestie fight against biting his erstwhile girlfriend, so Stefan could easily be lying. If only there was some way to check that Mikael was really dead before booking his flight across the country. Ooh, hand the phone to Rebekah! Or, you know, snap a picture of the daggered body and hit “send.” Come on, Bex figured out how to do that within two days of coming out of a 90-year coma.
The Katherine surprise Okay, this isn’t exactly a logic fail, but when Damon was having his tête-à-tête with Mikael, he casually mentioned the fact that the O.V. only feeds on vampires, a tidbit of knowledge he learned from Katherine. Spoiler alert! At this point we were still unsure if Kat was alive or dead, and this pretty much confirmed that she survived Mikael’s feeding. Ah well, we were still pretty surprised that it was the vampire version of the doppelganger that Mikael stabbed in front of Klaus.
