America's Next Top Model

ANTM All-Stars’ Laura on Angelea’s Emotional Breakdown – Exclusive

On this season of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 17: All Stars, recently eliminated Laura Kirkpatrick was arguably the sweetest, friendliest, nicest modelstant on the cast. We caught up with Laura yesterday to discuss the modelling behind the camera, but today we bring you Miss Apple Pie’s insider scoop on what Angelea, Allison, and Lisa are really like when the cameras aren’t rolling.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Who was your best friend in the house?

Laura: I definitely would say Allison. Me and Allison were really close. But it’s definitely a tie between Allison and Lisa. She was older than me so she looked after me a lot. But then me and Allison, we’re so much alike that, me and her kinda hung out the most.

That’s interesting, since the judges said you were opposites.

Yeah, oh we are so, so, so different in some ways but then some of those differences really bring us together and we kind of balance each other out.

What are you future plans?

Almost definitely to continue modeling. After the first time I was on Top Model Cycle 13, right after that, I went on and became a model, and that’s what I do now, I’m a successful model and that was really amazing to me, because where I come from that just doesn’t happen. Now I’m — it’s definitely going to help me, it’s not going to hurt me in any way.

But I’ve actually also started my own T-shirt brand, it’s all my artwork. What a lot of people don’t know about me from the show is I was an art major, so it’s all my artwork and everything. It’s something I’ve been working on for a long time, it’s very new, I just launched it last week. I’m very excited to see how it does. It’s called Grumbage by Laura.

What does the name Grumbage mean?

Well it was kind of just like a feeling you get with the clothes, they’re kind of like ‘90s grunge, all-American, I mean they’re not all grunge — a lot of them are girly too. And also, my friends were making fun of me, so if i make up a word, then I can’t spell it wrong.

Who was your biggest competition?

I wanna say Allison because she has that look that, just all Vogue and high fashion would just adore and love. And that’s who I was up against when I was eliminated.

Not Lisa?

There were so many things that Lisa would beat everybody in because of her personality and experience. So I always see her as big competition. But I always knew Allison has such a unique look and she does have a huge fan base on Top Model [fan sites].

What’s Tyra like off-camera?

She’s totally the same. She is a workaholic, you can definitely tell that. Morning, noon and night, she is working on something. On modeling, Top Model, she works in these big teams, it’s always something.

Who are you rooting for now?

Um, I guess, it’s so hard to say because I love them all. I root for Lisa a lot because she has what it takes to just take it home. She has a lot of talent, but Allison and me were so close in the competition that I just love her and would like to see her win too. But I had a close bond with all three of the girls. I would be happy to see any of them do well.

What did you think of Angelea’s personality?

From her Cycle I actually did commentary at the end of the show during the commercial breaks, and I was always voting for Angelea. I think she has like a special look and everything. She’s a very emotional person. She has a lot of feeling in her heart and people don’t see it that way. She’s a very loving person but also she’s a very sensitive person, people wouldn’t really associate her with that, but she is very sensitive and she takes things to the heart. She can love and laugh like nobody’s loved and laughed but she can also feel pain and anger like a normal person.

Have you read Modelland?

I have not and I don’t expect people to expect me to read it, since I’m dyslexic. It doesn’t mean I don’t read but it also means I’m not rushing out to buy books. Hopefully she’ll make a movie and I’ll watch the movie.
