Bones Season 7, Episode 4 “The Male in the Mail” – The Top 3 Quotations

This week’s episode struck a perfect balance between gross-out soup and tear-jerking character development (with plenty of comedy besides!), so it was tough to pick out only the three best quotations. But we do this job not because it’s easy, but because we’re that dedicated to Bones. That said... challenge accepted!

1. Cam (Tamara Taylor): “This is certainly a first for me.” Brennan (Emily Deschanel): “Me too! I have never seen this part of the post office before.” Cam: “Yes, I thought they sent the dismembered bodies to a completely different place.”

With all the expectations simmering about David Boreanaz (Booth)’s knockout emotional performance, we barked out a surprised laugh when this exchange hit us. Cam, with her classic pausing between words, executed her last line perfectly. And this is just the start of a cavalcade of gut-busters in this episode. One of the runners-up? Cam: “Aren’t those [lasers] used for eye surgery?” Hodgins (TJ Thyne): “Yeah! There’s gotta be an eye in here somewhere, right?”

2. Pops (Ralph Waite): “Good or bad, he was my son. And I gotta tell you, I’m a little disappointed that you don’t seem to see the hurt I’m feeling.”

This one’s another good wake-up call — albeit in a completely different direction — for those of us expecting Booth’s Oscar-winning moment. In fact, Booth’s not the only one delivering a bang-up performance this episode, and Pops’s emotion shining through gives us a great preview of his grandson’s pathos in the final scene.

3. Booth (to Shaw [Tina Majorino]): You thinking that the only way I’m going to respect you is if you hand me this final piece of the puzzle is not teamwork. It’s ego.”

And here’s proof that Booth’s not all tears and grimaces this episode! Not only is this a great window into Booth’s personality — he’s always loath to make things all about him, even in an episode that’s all about him — but it demonstrates the reliable brilliance of Bones’s writers. After all, Booth’s advice to Shaw can apply just as easily to us; even when we’re expecting Booth-stravaganza, we should still pay attention to all the other members of the team. Otherwise, we might miss all the hilarious zingers in this episode!

And that wraps it up for this week! Did your forensic investigation yield some other gems worthy of a moment under the microscope? Let us know!
