Shawntel Newton’s Experience With Grief Helped Her On The Bachelor
Shawntel Newton — a.k.a. hottest funeral director (and embalmer!) of all time — recently hosted a presentation sponsored by the Association for Women in Business. The Bachelor Season 15 contestant discussed being a woman in a male-dominated industry and how her career came in handy when dating Brad Womack. (Except when she mock embalmed him and it creeped him out — oops.)
"Christmas-time last year my sisters were on their laptops and laughing while watching the show," Shawntel told The Orion in her hometown of Chico, CA. "At that time, they were signing me up and I had no clue." (Interesting side note: Shawntel’s sister, Destiny Newton, whom viewers met on the hometown date, is dating Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.)
Shawntel told The Orion she was surprised when ABC called her and they were curious about her career. She went ahead with the show anyway and told the group her time on The Bachelor challenged her emotionally and physically, but she stayed grounded and maintained her integrity.
She added that her career as a funeral director actually helped her since she has experience dealing with grief. She also said she is planning to get a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling from California State University in Chico. So if the Sutters or Mesnicks ever want any counseling, they should call up Shawntel.
But maybe Shawntel should be taken off any potential lists to be the next Bachelorette. As she noted when discussing The Bachelor, "I don't even like roses.”
