Matthew Morrison on Which Glee Star Was the Hardest to Direct in Season 3’s Christmas Episode

Since most of you seemed to be happy with this week’s Season 3 Glee Christmas episode, we think it’s safe to say all praises can be sent to Matthew Morrison (Will), who acted in and directed the 1960s homage-paying ep.

We know castmates like Darren Criss loved having him as a director, but did his new role inspire any of his fellow Glee actors to perhaps give directing a try? "No. Just the opposite," he laughed to TV Line. "Everyone was like, “Oh, my God — you are working hard."

It is so much easier to smile and look pretty in front of the camera isn't it?

Of course, only one actress made Matthew's job difficult, and no, it wasn't rumored on-set diva Lea Michele (Rachel). "It's a big unspoken spoke rule that actors don't give other actors notes, but as a director you kind of have to," he explained to TV Guide. "Of course, the first time I was going to give Jane [Lynch] some direction, she raised a finger and said, 'I just want to remind you I have an Emmy Award and was just nominated for a People's Choice Award.' It was really funny."

Shocker. But, hey, if doing her own thang is what makes Jane Lynch Sue Sylvester, then directors may as well just move out the way and take all the credit later.

As for Matthew’s future in directing, he says he’ll probably pass on doing it for Glee again — “[I]t’s such a monster,” he admits — but wouldn’t rule out other projects... especially ones that didn’t require him to play double duty.
