How Will 30 Rock Handle Kim Jong-Il’s Death?

In the Season 5 episode of 30 Rock called “Everything Sunny All the Time Always,” we were introduced to Kim Jong-Il: evil North Korean dictator, probable sociopath, and kidnapper of Jack Donaghy’s (Alec Baldwin) wife and baby mama Avery Jessup (Elizabeth Banks). Our favorite propaganda from the TV version: “North Korea, everything sunny all the time, always, good time, beach party.”

Well, ding dong, another dictator is dead: Jong-Il died this weekend, meaning the upcoming Season 6 of 30 Rock will find itself in quite a pickle. As portrayed on 30 Rock by Margaret Cho, the show doesn’t have much in the way of options when it comes to changing already-shot scenes and story lines featuring Jong-Il and Avery.

Of course, since the amazing extended preview for Season 6 is already out there (do yourself a favor and watch it here), Tina Fey can’t exactly start cutting scenes and plots. Luckily, Tina had the premonition to have Avery married to Jong-Il’s son — ironically, the assumed heir apparent.

Even Elizabeth Banks has already started joking about how this affects her character on Twitter. After fans started bombarding her with tweets about the news, she tweeted “Appreciate all the concern over Avery Jessup's fate now that Kim Jong Il has died. We're at a pivotal moment in history.”

We’re just waiting for Alec Baldwin’s response, since it’s sure to be scandalous.
