Melanie looked like she could be the winner of The X Factor after she ended— and stole — the Wednesday night performance finale show with her version of Beyonce’s “Listen.”
The 19-year-old beauty faced stiff competition as fellow contestants Chris Rene and Josh Krajcik also rose to the occasion with great performances on the hit FOX reality show. But after she threw down “Listen,” her judge/mentor Simon Cowell thought she should be the winner and fellow judge L.A. Reid raved that Melanie delivered a “50 million dollar performance” instead of the real grand prize of $5 million.
When asked exclusively by Wetpaint Entertainment if she felt she had won, however, Melanie was modest, saying, “I surely hope so. I honestly don’t know. I mean, we’ve all done such a wonderful job [but] I tend to be more proud of my performances tonight.”
Backstage after the show, Melanie revealed her Wednesday night strategy: “I was thinking to myself that I’ve worked so hard that I gotta pour my heart out on these songs right now. I’ve got to push even harder and really sing my heart out.”

Before hitting all the high notes on “Listen,” Melanie dueted with R. Kelly on his hit, “I Believe I Can Fly.”
She told Wetpaint, “It was amazing. It was an honor to be able to work with him and be able do the first duet of that song with him.” Before the duet, R. Kelly advised her, “Just do what you love. Go for it,” she smiled.
Melanie, who was living in Florida before auditioning for the show, said the months in Hollywood have changed her: “It’s helped me to grow and to be so mature with everything and I feel as though I’ve come such a long way. I’ve worked tremendous hours and it’s had such a positive impact on my life, and I’m so happy with everything.”
The singer said she’s become addicted to macaroons on the set of The X Factor and once the show ends, she’ll miss, “being able to see Simon every day. I love Simon. He’s awesome.”
Melanie told Wetpaint if she wins, “I’ll buy my mommy a house first — and then a first-class ticket to Hawaii [for myself]. I think I might just want to be alone on the beach with my pet goldfish, Frankie.”
