Jill Zarin Drops $30K on Elizabeth Taylor’s Jewels and Personal Items at Auction
Former Real Housewife of New York Jill Zarin may be out of a job, but the wealthy gal and her husband, Bobby Zarin, recently dropped almost $30,000 on two items from the record-breaking $153 million Elizabeth Taylor auction at Christie’s New York.
Jill tells People magazine, “I’m a huge fan of Elizabeth Taylor. I always have been. I admired her because she was such a loyal friend and because she was the first A-list celebrity to say that HIV/AIDS is not a gay disease and came out to help so many people. Owning some of her pieces is really personal.”
The Zarin’s dropped a reported $19,000 on a light-blue gemstone ring designed by jeweler Zorhab Istanboulian. While Jill loved the ring, it was her daughter, Ally, who inspired her to buy it because the blue stones reminded her of Ally’s eyes.
Jill also picked up a gold pillbox from Van Cleef & Arpels, bearing the inscription, “To Elizabeth With Love,” as well as the words POKER ALICE, the name of her 1987 TV movie with George Hamilton. Jill was also thrilled with the thought that Taylor once used the pillbox. “I liked it because it was engraved to her. You know she used it. It’s something I want to keep forever.”
Jill’s new purchases come at a perfect time, because the launch of her own jewelry line, Jill Zarin Jewelry, is just over a month away. The first limited-edition collection will be on sale exclusively at jillzarinjewelry.com starting February 1, 2012.
