What Was the Biggest Reality Show Scandal of 2011? (POLL)
When it comes to reality show, sometimes the biggest drama happens off-camera. In fact, in 2011, some of the most shocking reality TV moments occurred when cameras weren’t rolling.
Angelea Preston’s mysterious disqualification on America's Next Top Model All-Stars was briefly touched on in the All-Stars finale, but both Angelea and The CW were fairly tight-lipped when it came to talking about why exactly the modelstant was cut. (Although, Angelea’s fellow contestant Allison did hint to us that Angelea was the initial winner of All-Stars and that they had to re-film the final judging panel to crown Lisa the winner, making Angelea’s disqualification all the more mysterious.)
Of course, ANTM wasn’t the only show with its own scandal brewing. Every reality fan was shocked when Russell Armstrong, Taylor Armstrong’s estranged husband on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, committed suicide just a few weeks before the highly-anticipated premiere of Season 2.
And then there was the Kim Kardashian divorce scandal, where the curvy beauty filed for divorce from her husband Kris Humphries after just 72 days of marriage (and just a few weeks before the premiere of Kim & Kourtney Take New York). Fans were outraged and many accused Kim of getting married just for the cameras.
Amber Portwood of Teen Mom fame also had a very bad year. The young mom was rushed to the hospital earlier this year after a failed suicide attempt and she was arrested in December for violating her probation.
Leah Messer of Teen Mom 2 also hit a rough patch. The MTV star filed for divorce from her husband Corey Simms after just 6 months of marriage.
Other reality show scandals that dominated the year included Maksim Chmerkovskiy getting into a verbal sparring match with Dancing With the Stars judge Len Goodman, Snooki and The Situation locked into a heated battle of he-said-she-said on Jersey Shore, and Jacqueline Laurita of Real Housewives of New Jersey skipping the show’s reunion and ranting on Twitter that co-star Teresa Giudice had set someone up on the forthcoming Season 4.
