Taylor Swift Beats Out Lea Michele For Major Role in Upcoming Les Miserables Movie
Taylor Swift has reportedly been offered the major role of Eponine in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of Les Miserables, and she beat out the likes of Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson, and Evan Rachel Wood.
Even though Taylor’s acting experience consists of her oh-so-memorable big-screen debut in Valentine’s Day, where she had the difficult job of convincing audiences that she was attracted to Taylor Lautner, the bigwigs behind the star-studded movie apparently prefer a fresher face for the role.
As any Gleek knows, Lea has sung her fair share of Les Miz on the show, including Eponine’s most famous song, “On My Own.” On top of her well-publicized familiarity with the musical, her lengthy Broadway resume (including her first Broadway role at the age of 8, ironically, in Les Miserables, playing Young Cosette), Lea made the following comment to New York Magazine recently, after being asked about the Les Miz audition: “How embarrassing if I don’t get it!”
Taylor will join Anne Hathaway (Fantine), Amanda Seyfried (Cosette), Hugh Jackman (Jean Valjean), and Russell Crowe (Javert) in the likely Oscar magnet, with 2011’s Academy Award winner for Best Director, Tom Hooper, at the helm.
As die-hard Lea fanatics, however, we’re going to create and watch a Best Of compilation of Rachel Berry’s greatest moments in Broadway ballads tonight. Even if it’s on our own.
