The Bachelor

Did Bachelor Producers Tell Ben Flajnik To Give Jenna Burke a Rose in the Season 16 Premiere?

It was the question of the night: Why did Ben Flajnik give Jenna Burke a rose on The Bachelor Season 16 premiere when there were several women around who didn’t sob and could actually complete full sentences? Sympathy? Chemistry? Manipulation? Why, Ben, WHY?

During their sit-down with the Bachelor, Entertainment Weekly came right out and asked “Did producers encourage you to give Jenna a rose?”

Ben: "That was me. And the thing is — I'll probably get a lot of heat for this and everything — but what people don't understand is, it's the first episode and we have almost three months left, you know, and there are still 18 other women here. So if I saw anything in Jenna, keep her around, you know, before her demise that first night. The other women that went home — nice women, but I just didn't see anything there."

Contrary to what we saw play out, Ben says he did get a chance to talk to Jenna before she fell down the rabbit hole of booze and emotion.

Ben: “Actually, I had a nice conversation with Jenna early on in the night. I think her nerves got the best of her. It's a very intense first evening. She might have had a couple too many cocktails. I enjoyed the conversation I had with her in the beginning of the night. And so that was the reason for me giving her the rose."

He said Jenna had a really rough go of it and one thing he really wanted to do this season was practice patience and that started with Jenna. Project Jenna = Mission Accomplished?
