So You Think You Can Dance

SYTYCD’s Nigel Lythgoe & Mary Murphy Talk Results Show Cancellation & Atlanta Auditions for Season 9 (VIDEO)

It was an exciting several days for the residents of Atlanta, as the cast and crew of Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance took over midtown’s Fox Theater in search of “America’s Favorite Dancer.” Our friends at Access Atlanta were there to watch the talent and get the scoop on Season 9 from judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and Debbie Allen.

Cutting right to the chase, Access Atlanta correspondent Rodney Ho wanted to know more about Fox’s decision to cancel Thursday night’s show and if it had anything to do with a drop in ratings. Nigel assured that poor rating were not the reason the Results Show was canceled and said, “The standard of dance went up and the ratings went down. But they only went down a little bit.”

While the cancellation came as a shock to fans, Nigel claimed it will have a positive effect on the series. “We wanted to reformat the show. We want people to focus on dance. In order to do that is give the results within the show so you don’t have to watch over two evenings.”

Nigel is tweaking the new format, but promises that the group dances and “dance for your life” portions aren’t going anywhere. He is “re-energized” by the process and excited for the new interpretation of the series.

We’re also excited for a new season and a new format! Bring on the dancing!
