Torrey DeVitto on Alaric and Meredith’s Romance: “I Hope This Lasts”

Last week marked the arrival of Dr. Meredith Fell, played by Torrey DeVitto, but unlike many short-lived characters in Mystic Falls, word is TVD’s newest lovely lady will be sticking around — and stirring things up — for awhile.

First and foremost, Meredith will add some much needed spice, and hopefully some security, to Alaric’s love life. Torrey, who happens to be married a guy by the name of Paul Wesley (Stefan Salvatore), told Zap2it that she hopes Meredith is in it for the long haul.

"I have obviously seen a lot of Vampire Diaries episodes, but I wasn't a hundred percent up to speed on Alaric's past romances, so when I dug into that, I realized that it's pretty tragic,” Torrey says. “I always say that for the sake of Alaric, I hope this lasts, because the poor guy really needs a break." We second that!

But it won’t all be smooth sailing, naturally. It sounds like Damon won’t be too keen on a random girl infiltrating his bromance — particularly because this one has a few ideas of her own about how the town should run. “Damon and Alaric are really close, so her coming in as a love interest for his friend makes him a little bit wary, for sure, because that's his guy, that's his buddy," Torrey says.

Of course, we also wanted to know what it is like hooking up with Matt Davis (Alaric), especially with her hubby hanging on set.

"It wasn't awkward! He's so nice and he's really just such a great, professional actor, that I felt really comfortable right away. Obviously, it's part of the job. You get used to it."

Smooching Matt Davis and going home to Paul Wesley? Now that’s one lucky girl!
