Khloe Kardashian Talked Lamar Odom Out of Quitting Basketball
Lamar Odom is back in his old L.A. stomping grounds tonight as the Dallas Mavericks take on his former team, the L.A. Lakers. th Lamar’s return to the motherland must come with a whole storm of emotions for the recently-traded basketballer, including returning to the same city in which he contemplated walking away from the game entirely.
In July 2011, Lamar was hit with a series of tragedies that left him feeling down on his game. First, he lost his 24-year-old cousin to murder, and, a few days later, was involved in a car crash that resulted in the death of a young boy at the hands of his employed driver.
With all the trauma came a lot of doubts, and Lamar started seriously considering a leave of absence. When ESPN asked Lamar how close he came to requesting a season-long sabbatical from the game, he replied, “real close.”
The reality star elaborated: "’Cause I was asking myself: 'Was I mentally prepared to play? If I didn't play well, was I mentally prepared to help the team?' I had thought, 'Maybe I need a year.' Because of the lockout, I thought, 'Maybe somebody's sending me a sign that I needed this time off.'”
However, Lamar says when shared the idea with friends and family, their reactions “gave [him] the energy to get back” into the game. However, no such reaction mattered as much as reality wifey Khloe Kardashian’s, and she was reportedly the one who eventually talked him out of it.
Now, life seems to have turned around for the 32-year-old athlete. Although the Lakers did send Lamar southward – and his playing this season has been less-than-stellar – he still feels “blessed” to be playing for such a prestigious team.
And, you know, the fact that he’s shacking up in a hot new abode with his millionaire wife certainly can’t hurt!
