Kim Richards at the SUR Party: What You Didn’t See on TV — Exclusive
If it hadn’t been clear before, last night’s episode ofTheReal Housewives of Beverly Hillsproved what bad shape Kim Richards had truly been in. Thankfully, Kim checked into rehab in early December and completed a 30-day program — and now that she’s out, she’s appears to be on the right track.
But during last night’s episode, which had been shot over the summer, she was in desperate need of help. Prior to arriving to the opening of Lisa Vanderpump’s new lounge, SUR, with her then-boyfriend Ken Blumenfeld, Kim was disoriented and erratic as she tried to get dressed. In the car, she couldn’t focus and, once at the party, she not only broke down in tears in front of her sister, Kyle, she also took a prolonged trip to the bathroom. When Ken and other guests tried to check on her, she yelled at them from behind a locked door to leave her alone.
Now, Jennifer Gimenez, star of Sober House and Celebrity Rehab who’s also a certified addiction counselor at the L.A.’s KLEAN Treatment Center, tells us much more went down that night than what made it to air. A guest at the SUR party (she came with close pal Brandi Glanville), she immediately noticed Kim was in trouble — and tried her best to intervene. Here’s what she says really happened:
“I saw Kim when she first walked in,” Jennifer exclusively tells Wetpaint Entertainment. “I had been around her before and I’ve seen the way she acts when she’s not herself. I already knew she was sick and suffering. So after she arrived at the Sur party, I kept my eye on her.”
“What I saw broke my heart,” Jennifer adds. “It was so clear that she needed help.”
But what looked like one prolonged trip to the bathroom on TV was actually several trips over the course of the night.
“She spent a lot of time in the bathroom,” Jennifer explains. “She was in there half the night. Finally, I went over there. I waited until Ken had left. He had been hovering around the bathroom door waiting for her and I didn’t think that was helping the situation.”
“So when he walked away, I went over and knocked on the bathroom door. Kim opened it and was like, ‘What do you want?’ and I just said to her, ‘Look, I know you know that I’m sober and I just wanted to say if you need help, I can help you. I can help you tonight, I can help you tomorrow, I can help you anytime you want.’”
“She started to open up to me, but she was so scattered, she wasn’t making a lot of sense. So I gave her my number and she gave me hers and I told her to call me. I told her I would be there for her. I think she believed me. I told her it had nothing to do with the cameras or the show, I just wanted to help her. I think she understood that.”
Immediately after the show aired last night, Jennifer’s Twitter and Facebook accounts were going crazy with messages from viewers asking why she hadn’t stepped in to help. “I did step in,” Jennifer says. “It just didn’t make the final edit.”
“But I was thrilled when I heard Kim had checked into rehab. I’m so grateful she finally sought treatment. If she ever needs a sober friend, I’m here for her 100%.”
