Jersey Shore’s The Unit Talks Snooki-Situation Drama, Drug Arrest & Getting Sober – Exclusive

Like his best friend The Situation, Jonny “The Unit” Manfre talks about himself in the third person. He’s also attracts plenty of drama both on and off the air on Jersey Shore.

Onscreen, The Unit is Snooki’s worst nightmare, claiming to have seen her cheating on her boyfriend, Jionni with his own eyes the night she allegedly hooked up with the Situation in early 2011. Months later, he was arrested for drug possession outside the cast’s Seaside House.

Off-screen, The Unit says the arrest has since inspired him to quit drinking and drugging. In an exclusive interview with Wetpaint Entertainment, The Unit talks about his decision to go sober and what he thinks of all the Snooki-Situation drama.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Are you truly sober? If so what prompted you to make that change in your life?

The Unit: Yes, I am sober. I've had my ups and downs in the past like many young adults out there enjoying life, but within the past six months I made a decision to not get intoxicated anymore. Once I did so, life went from good to great. There is nothing wrong with partying responsibly, but when that gets out of hand or it lands you in trouble then it is time to make a change.

First off, I don't have the desire to get wasted anymore. I like myself and the way that I feel sober. Second, I know that I am looked upon to be a role model by the young people out there and feel that I let them down by getting arrested. This is one of my very few regrets in life. I do look at it as a blessing though because now my personal issues, which are issues that many young people face, are up for public discussion. I have made just about every mistake that a young person can make in life and am now dedicated to using these mistakes as lessons to help some young people not make the same mistakes or to help them realize that if they are deep in a hole of any type of personal problems, as long as they make the decision and a real effort to climb out of it, there is sunshine on top.

Will we see your drug arrest drama play out on Jersey Shore?

That's a good question that I don't have the answer for. If so, it will be a great Public Service Announcement (PSA) to the kids because I am pretty sure that I am going to look anything but cool. Kids: Please do not try this at home!

What's your take on the whole Snooki-Situation drama? What really happened that night?

My take is one that I will be happy to give at the end of the season. I'm just one of those guys that hates giving away the ending to a good movie. I think we'll all enjoy watching it unfold like a lawn chair right in front of our eyes on Thursday nights.

How do you think you came off in the Season 5 premiere?

I think I came off first and foremost as completely shredded. The Unit is in amazing shape! Other than that I was definitely an entertaining character and brought a lot of fun to the show. Depending if you are Team Snooki or if you are Team Sitch/Unit will decide if you think that I instigated the fight with Snooki or if Snooki instigated the fight with me. No matter what team you are on, I think we can all agree that once the initial fight with Snooki occurred, I became the Douchenator, on a mission to f**k with Snooks!
