Logic Fails From Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 12, “The Ties That Bind”

The Vampire Diaries is a show where witches can bring back people from the dead, vampires kiss humans instead of ripping their throats out, and werewolves have silky smooth chests when they haven’t transformed. And we accept all of this without the blink of the eye. Yet it’s the little things that make us scoff and say, “That would never happen.” Check out the biggest logic fails from Season 3, Episode 12, “The Ties That Bind.”

Super-secret police files
First, Sheriff Forbes is occasionally in on the schemes the TVD gang pulls, so we buy that she would help Elena and Bonnie find Abby Bennett. But then Damon waltzes in saying he used compulsion to get the file — and that same deputy told Klaus where to find Mama Witch. So clearly it wasn’t Caroline’s mom who was assisting them, and those files aren’t exactly civilian accessible, so Bonnie and Elena never should’ve gotten their sleuthing little paws on them. And speaking of that piece of paper with the DMV info, why did Bonnie and Elena leave it behind? Someone’s subconscious wants Stefan to find them.

Hello, stranger
Abby’s adopted son, Jamie, told Bonnie she looked familiar after glancing at her sideways for five seconds, but the witch had to introduce herself to her own mother? Even if Jamie’s seen that photo of toddler Bonnie smiling with Abby, we doubt he’d know her better than her mama — even if it’s been 15 years since she ditched her.

Hybrid in a cage
It was very kind of Bill to help his daughter’s ex resist the sire bond, but did he really need to be in the same room while Tyler transformed? He’d already finished giving the hybrid a few whacks with the ax, so why didn’t he just cheerlead from the other side of the cage? Far less chance of a mauling that way.

Can we have the number of your hairdresser?
We were super excited to see Elijah back and undaggered, and my, did he look good. A few months of rest certainly seemed to rejuvenate him. And his hair! It was definitely a few inches shorter than when he went into that coffin. Did Klaus take his lifeless form to the barber or what?

Medical miracles
It’s cool that Meredith likes to save her patients via cheating with vampire blood, but doesn’t the rest of the hospital staff get suspicious? Shouldn’t Dr. Fell’s cases be getting written up in medical journals every single day? If a man goes from the verge of death to walking around in the course of a couple hours, we would think that would garner some attention. Oh, Mystic Falls residents. You’re so oblivious.
