Guido Politics: Jersey Shore Drew More Viewers Than GOP Debates

On Thursday, January 26, 5 million people tuned into CNN for a debate between the Republican presidential hopefuls. On the same night, 6.6 million people watched Snooki and Deena hump each other while dressed as bunnies on Jersey Shore. Yep, Snooki and crew are more popular than Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

Before you throw your hands in the air, declare the Mayans were right, and lock yourself in a bunker waiting for the world to end, you should remember that this was the second GOP debate of the week (the first was on Monday, and drew 5.5 million viewers), and the zillionth in recent months. The Republic candidates are getting more air time this season than some of our favorite sitcoms.

So is this a sign of political apathy amongst Americans, or just proof that people would rather watch The Situation sleep with a stripper than hear another word about Newt Gingrich's "open marriage"?

We kind of think it's the latter, and honestly, can you blame them?

Jersey Shore airs Thursdays at 10 pm ET/PT on MTV.
