Pretty Little Liars

Does the Episode Title ”A Kiss Before Lying” Reveal Something Sinister About Maya?

The titles of Pretty Little Liars episodes are usually either too vague or abstract to really apply meaning to the plot itself. But this week’s episode, Season 2, Episode 18: “A Kiss Before Lying,” actually might be more revealing than usual.

In the episode, the only two people that we see kissing (aside from Ezria, which is pretty much an instance that occurs every episode now) are Maya (Bianca Lawson) and Emily (Shay Mitchell). And they kiss a lot. So this got us wondering if Maya was the one who was kissing and lying, per the title.

We hear some of the same details about Maya’s affair with a guy from her drug rehab that we’ve already heard, and we believe her claims about still holding a grudge against Emily’s mom (Nia Peeples), which led to her animosity during dinner.

But we can think of two possible lies that Maya told, and if either of them was duplicitous, then they’re major. First, Maya claimed that she just met Noel (Brant Daugherty) when he approached her with phone assistance at the restaurant, while she was waiting for Em and her mom. We did hear a snippet of their conversation (something along the lines of, “If you need any help with apps...”), which sounded innocuous, but the techno-relevance could be a link to “A.”

Also, those three big words that Emaya exchanged towards the end, “I love you,” were ostensibly very sweet. But if Maya is indeed part of a larger “A” group, it’s possible that she just told Emily that to keep her close, and keep her in the dark.

What do you think?
