Vampire Diaries Spoilers: Who Invites Matt to the Original’s Ball in Season 3, Episode 14, “Dangerous Liaisons”
If you thought all Matt (Zach Roerig) was good for on The Vampire Diaries was getting shirtless in Mystic Grill’s supply closet, then you’ve definitely seen a different side of him recently. Not only is he Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Caroline’s (Candice Accola) go-to confidant, but he’s about to be involved in the action in a big way. Expect him to get an invitation he can’t possibly refuse. It turns out the wholesome waiter has caught the eye of one Barbie Klaus. Rebekah (Claire Holt) is harboring a bit of a crush on Matt and asks him to accompany her to the Originals’ ball. “He's a bit intimidated," Zach tellsTV Fanatic.”He figures that saying no might not be a smart move." Er, yeah. Bex probably takes rejection about as well as Klaus (Joseph Morgan).
Even though acquiring to Rebekah makes sense, Matt’s date makes us nervous! As Zach toldZap2It, "I think as soon as you see Matt involved in that circle, those Originals, it might be the last time you see him.” Eep!
However, Matt still has a lot to do around Mystic Falls. The trend of Matt stepping up the past few episodes will continue. Zach explained to Zap2It that viewers should expect to see him “be brave, with no motive behind it and no superpowers fueling it.” Besides that, he’ll maintain his reassuring presence for Elena and Caroline. “Matt's a constant reminder to all these people of who they really are,” Zach said in the Zap2Itinterview. Aww! Zach Roerig, you’re making us a little melt-y.
But while he’s certainly friends with the doppelganger and blonde vampire, Matt isn’t pursuing anything romantic with either in the foreseeable future. Of course, with everyone from Klaus to Ian Somerhalder suggesting Elena’s better off with a human, Zach’s not ruling out the possibility of Elena and Matt being together forever. “In the life of the show, I think Matt would have just as good a chance as anyone,” he says.
Maybe Matt should try walking around shirtless in front of her more often.
