Jennifer Hudson: Whitney Houston Grammys Tribute Was “Greatest Honor of My Life”

The day after pop icon Whitney Houston was found dead in her room in the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel, Jennifer Hudson performed an emotional tribute to the singer at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards. Grammy producers scrambled to prepare a show deserving of the late great singer’s memory, tapping the American Idol alum for a brief but moving musical moment. “It's too fresh in everyone's memory to do more at this time,” Grammy producer Ken Erhlich said Sunday morning.

By all accounts, Jennifer’s rendition of “I Will Always Love You” was the most moving part of the awards ceremony, and a searing homage to Whitney. Hours before the show, host LL Cool J called Jennifer “the closest thing we have now to what Whitney was.”

In a brief statement issued to Us Weekly, Jennifer said, "It was the greatest honor of my life to be able to be the one to pay tribute to Whitney's memory,” adding that she remains emotional in the wake of Whitney’s legendary life. “I haven't stopped crying since she passed.”
