Adele’s 21 Breaks Record With 21st Week at No. 1, Steals Whitney Houston’s Title
Twenty-one is Adele's lucky number. Her album, 21, which earned the singer six major awards at this year's Grammys, has officially topped the Billboard 200 chart for 21 weeks running, making it the longest-running No. 1 album by a woman ever.
This victory is bittersweet: The previous record holder was Whitney Houston's soundtrack album, The Bodyguard, and the overthrow comes less than two weeks after Whitney's tragic death.
Still, we're excited for Adele. 21 is a gorgeous album, and Adele's music draws its power mainly from the beauty of her voice — proving that the tradition of vocally spectacular pop singers, like Whitney, lives on.
