Glee’s Max Adler on Karofsky’s Suicide Attempt: “It Needs to Be Shown”

Tuesday night’s Glee Season 3, Episode 14: “On My Way” mid-season finale packed more than a few shocking punches – none more powerful than the storyline surrounding Dave Karofsky’s suicide attempt following a locker-room bully session and some ugly taunts online. Throughout, the man behind the Karofsky, Max Adler, was a dynamo, and from the sound of things, it was no easy feat…

Max Adler shared with Entertainment Weekly that the scenes leading up to Karofsky’s suicide attempt were “incredibly tough,” but, he added, “For me, to experience that and walk a mile in someone’s shoes, it was incredible and it was an amazing learning experience. Was it easy? No. But valuable? Yes.”

That value, as Max sees it, is in the honesty with which this most sensitive of issues was dealt with, and the hope it could offer to so many.

“I think because [of] the fact that it’s so prevalent in the news and it’s such an epidemic, it needs to be shown and it needs to be talked about,” Max told EW. “I think all our hopes [are] that it saves a lot of lives and, to the bullies, I think it sheds a whole new perspective on what their words really do to people.”

Spot-on, Mr. Adler! And to that end, we surely hope you’ll be sticking around so we can see how the rest of this story plays out…
