The Voice Beats American Idol as the Top-Rated Show of the Season!
A heartfelt congratulations to our favorite singing-based talent competition show, The Voice, for becoming the top-rated show of 2012 so far! (You hear that, Nigel Lythgoe? Feel the sting.)
According to The Wrap, The Voice has averaged an astonishing 19.8 million total viewers since its premiere after The Super Bowl on February 5.
This is a big win for NBC, as the network has been struggling with ratings for the past few years and is currently trailing in fourth place for total viewers and ratings share behind FOX, CBS, and ABC. Though it’s holding tight to the coveted 18-49 demo, there’s still plenty of time for things to change, as both The Voice and American Idol are still in midseason.
The good news is that whatever happens with ratings for the rest of the season, barring a complete boycott of the show, The Voice will return in the fall for a third season.
As reported, all four judges will return to host, and we’ll be curious to see how the ratings hold up next to Simon Cowell’s The X Factor, which will also be airing its second season concurrently in the fall.
Good luck, Simon, but we think you’ve got some pretty stiff competish.
