Who Sang “Folsom Prison Blues” Better: The Voice’s Jamie Lono or American Idol’s Paul McDonald?
'Twas a tale as old as competitive talent show time: one song, two very different renditions. Jamie Lono earned a seat to Battle Rounds when he sang his little sandwich-making heart out with “Folsom Prison Blues” on Monday’s episode of The Voice.
We loved it, but it reminded us of a similar guitar-strumming gent who performed the very same Johnny Cash hit on a different stage last year. Paul McDonald, who came in eighth place on Season 10 of American Idol, also gave a rousing performance of the song.
Personally, we’re on Team Jamie, but we gotta hand it to Paul for giving it the ol’ college try. We also take into account that his version was produced with backup and all sorts of crazy light effects while Jamie’s was pure, unfettered Voice.
But don’t let us convince you! Watch both and tell us: Who sang it better?
