Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh? ScarJo Cast in New Psycho Movie
Anyone who’s ever seen Psycho — the original, not that weird, art-house Gus Van Sant version — has trouble forgetting the scene where Janet Leigh is attacked by a knife-wielding murderer in the shower. And now, that scene is about to become even more unforgettable.
Scarlett Johansson has signed on to play Janet Leigh in a new movie about the making of Psycho called, aptly, Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film is based on the book of the same name, a non-fiction account of all the behind-the-scenes, on-set action of the 1960 horror classic. The basic plot is as follows: “Hitchcock, at the height of his game as a director, decided to make a ‘lowly’ horror movie. No studio wanted to touch it initially, so Hitchcock scrounged for financing by himself.”
While ScarJo’s role is mighty, it may be brief. THR adds, “At the center of the script...is the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife. Johansson's role is smaller.”
As she proved in movies like Iron Man 2 and He’s Just Not That Into You, Scarlett knows how to take a small part and make a big impression. Or, when she’s on the red carpet, two big impressions — ideal for portraying a busty, memorable Janet Leigh.
