Red Carpet Scoop! Sarah Paulson Dishes on American Horror Story Return

At Friday night’s PaleyFest, fans of FX’s American Horror Story found out that creator Ryan Murphy was not only bringing back his Golden Globe-winning star Jessica Lange and Star Trek heartthrob Zachary Quinto for the show’s second season, but also Evan Peters (Tate), Lily Rabe (Nora), and Sarah Paulson (Billy Dean).

This time, though, the manic teenage killer, sad doctor’s wife, and fame-hungry psychic are long gone — instead, viewers can expect each actor to play the opposite of what they did in Season 1. (This should make for the happiest horror story we’ve ever seen, since all characters were the epitome of doom and gloom in the first season.)

Moments before the announcement, Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with Sarah Paulson on the red carpet, and although she wasn’t ready to confirm her participation at that point, we did feel her sense of excitement to be part of the scariest franchise on TV.

“I would do anything for Ryan Murphy — he could ask me to stand in a hole and bury myself alive and film it,” Sarah told reporters before the panel. “He’s been very kind to me over the years and always cast me in things and I would do anything for him.”

Though it remains to be seen who Sarah’s new scene partners will be in the second season, the actress would be quite happy to continue doing all her scenes with costar Jessica Lange.

“My stuff was all with Jessica last year, and I don’t think it gets any better than that,” she admits. “I mean, everybody on the show was incredible, but I feel like I won the lottery in that way because she was so incredible.”

The show’s first season was quickly embraced by a rabid fan base, but while hopeful, Sarah isn't 100% confident that audiences will be eager to return for the anthology series that isn’t afraid to push boundaries.

“I don’t know that they’re ready for that type of style,” she says. “I hope they are. I think because the show was so beloved last year and it really grabbed people by the throat, no pun intended — well, maybe intended — I think they’ll come back and check it out.”

But guess who’s not coming back to check out more episodes — at least not at 10PM when the show airs on cable?

“I couldn’t watch this show except during the day,” Sarah confesses. “I could never watch it at night — it’s too scary for me. I live by myself, and little bumpy noises in the night are not for me. I’m not into shadowy movements either… Not for me!”
