3 Reasons The Voice’s Adley Stump Deserved to Advance to the Live Shows
We’re not trying to beat a dead horse here, but Oklahoman singer Adley Stump was totally robbed last night. Her powerhouse vocals trumped Texan RaeLynn’s shaky stylings, and her positive attitude proved that not only is she talented, she’s also a great sport.
Here are the top three reasons Blake Shelton is crazy to have eliminated her:
1) Rockin’ the Battle Rounds
Though RaeLynn did pull up in her perfectly product-placed Kia, Adley came into the battle rounds with a subtle power. After RaeLynn started off the song sounding off-key and nervous, Adley crept in with a secret smile and continued to surprise us throughout the performance.
Blake complemented RaeLynn numerous times, calling her a “stylist” and comparing her to a young version of his wife, Miranda Lambert (creepy?). We do agree that the pairing was a good idea in theory (we did predict it, after all), but it was pretty clear to us that Adley came out on top.
When it came time for the judges to review the performance, Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green both crowned Adley victorious, saying that her presence and vocal maturity had more competition staying power than RaeLynn’s did. Adam Levine said that RaeLynn gave the most unique performance, but admitted Adley overpowered her.
Guess it doesn’t hurt to have the judge’s wife as your mentor or vocal twin. As our two polls’ results imply, the majority of you guys don’t think RaeLynn deserved her win last night. Good to know we’re not alone on this one.
2) Slim Pickins
By the time Adley auditioned for The Voice, there were only two judges left looking for contestants — Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera. RaeLynn auditioned early in the competition and had the good fortune of having plenty of available spots on each team.
Blake Shelton and Adam Levine turned for RaeLynn, but we knew she’d go with the husband of her idol. In Adley’s case, we’re not sure who she would have picked if more judges had been able to turn. Yes, she’s a country girl, but we did find this video of her singing Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy,” and singing it pretty damn well we might add.
Maybe if she had a picked Cee Lo, or any other judge for that matter, she wouldn’t have been subjected to Blake’s apparent bias.
Ever since her blind audition we’ve been wondering one thing — why hasn’t anyone commented on this girl’s massive head of hair? She’s got a giant, blond Chia Pet growing up there, and no one seems to want to acknowledge it.
Her locks match her bubbly personality perfectly and we were looking forward to seeing all the inventive hairstyles Adley had to offer.
Why deprive us of that, Blake?
