Pretty Little Liars Speculation: Why Did ”A” Plant a Police Badge at the Scene of the Fire?

One of our favorite moments of each Pretty Little Liars episode is the final scene, which always features “A” doing something sneaky, frightening, or just plain mysterious. And last night’s final moment did not disappoint.

At the end of Season 2, Episode 23: “Eye of the Beholder,” we saw “A” creep around the wreckage of Jason’s (Drew Van Acker) house fire, stepping past glass shards and cinder wood, and dropping a Rosewood Police badge right at the scene of the crime. Why would “A” do this? We have a few theories.

Framing Garrett: The most obvious reason to drop the badge at the scene is to make it seem like a cop set the fire. The only Rosewood cops we know are Detective Wilden (Bryce Johnson), and Officer Garrett Reynolds (Yani Gellman). While Hanna (Ashley Benson) and her mom have good reasons to hate Wilden, we’re pretty much positive that neither of them planted the badge. Caleb (Tyler Blackburn) might still hold a grudge against Garrett for arresting him and seizing his computer (Season 2, Episode 20: “CTRL: A”), but we’re sticking with our theory that Caleb’s a good guy, for now.

The next suspect is Melissa Hastings (Torrey DeVitto), who not only remains a prime “A” suspect, but would also have the easiest access to Garrett’s badge since she rides in his silly striped car all the time.

Sending a Message to the Cops: Planting a police badge at the house is also a neat way of pointing fingers at the Rosewood Police squad. What if “A” just wants to move the focus away from him/her, and direct everyone’s attention to an irrelevant operation? “A” might also hold the police responsible for failing to find Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse) killer, assuming “A” was an ally of Ali’s. Or, “A” might resent the police for not keeping the Little Liars in custody, assuming “A” hates the Little Liars. Or both, really.

Sending a Message to the Little Liars: “A” usually sends the Little Liars messages on their phones or computers, but with so much going on, “A” might be telling the Little Liars something by dropping the badge there. Could “A” be pointing them in Garrett’s direction (since at this point we're thinking his Page 5 involvement probably means he’s partly responsible for Alison’s death, or at least involved with the cover up)?

Most importantly, tell us what you think in the comments!
