Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson Fights Back Against Kirk Cameron’s Anti-Gay Remarks

Recently, former Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron — who now has his own Evangelic ministry called The Way of the Master — sparked a huge controversy in Hollywood after spewing anti-gay marriage comments on Piers Morgan Tonight.

"Do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don't," Kirk declared, adding that he thinks homosexuality "is unnatural...detrimental, and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization."

Unsurprisingly, Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett), who is a frequent advocate of LGBT rights, was not having it.

"The only unnatural thing about me being gay is that I had a crush on Kirk Cameron until about 24 hours ago," Jesse tweeted.

Jesse also told E! that Kirk's statement was "a very closed-minded, very homophobic view point...It's also surprising coming from someone who was probably brought up in the business among many gay people. It's just very sad."

Modern Family airs Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
