Pretty Little Liars

Who Is ”A”? Top Suspects From Pretty Little Liars Season 2, Episode 23

So, you’re still dying to know who “A” is on Pretty Little Liars. Don’t worry — we’ve got our crack team of sleuths on the case, picking up even the tiniest clue for your mystery-solving pleasure. Here are some hints from Season 2, Episode 23: “Eye of the Beholder,” that may help us solve this thing for good!

Suspect #1: Melissa Hastings
Why she might be “A”: Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) just might have been the one who wanted Jenna (Tammin Sursok) to die in a fire, since Jenna probably has dirt on her (given that they were both in the “murder video”). We also know that Melissa is not a fan of Jason’s (Drew Van Acker), so she may have tried to frame him for the murder. Plus, it’s never a good sign when your own mother doesn’t trust you, as we learned this week. In fact, the Hastings give new meaning to the words “family feud.” (Survey says? This family is messed up!)

Why she might not be “A”: We don’t know of any concrete motive for her to want to kill Jenna. Plus, Spencer (Troian Bellisario) maintains that Melissa was in Philly at the time (not that Spencer would necessarily know Melissa’s exact whereabouts). Regardless, given Jenna’s luck with fires, we would recommend that Jenna stay far away from any type of open flame from now on — even if it’s just a campfire with people singing “Kumbaya” around it. (Better safe than sorry.)

Suspect #2: Mona Vanderwaal
Why she might be “A”: There is certainly a looong list of people who wouldn’t be devastated if Jenna were sent to the Great Big Sunglasses Store in the Sky, and that list includes Mona (Janel Parrish), who’s made her anti-Jenna sentiment quite clear. Plus, Mona apparently has old phones lying around — e.g., she loaned one to Hanna (Ashley Benson) — and she’s tech-savvy, meaning she would probably know how to make it seem that Jason had sent that text to Jenna. (Speaking of phones, we wish we could just ask Siri to tell us who “A” is.)

Why she might not be “A”: First of all, we’re pretty sure that the TV show wouldn’t choose the same “A” as the books. But beyond that, Mona has been acting more lovable than usual lately, which makes an inclined to believe she’s not the murdering type. Plus, her main beef with Jenna this week seemed to be the fact that Jenna stole Noel (Brant Daugherty), and let’s face it: Noel might be cute, but worth murdering for? Not quite.

Suspect #3: Garrett Reynolds
Why he might be “A”: When it comes to likely suspects for starting the fire, perhaps none is bigger than Garrett (Yani Gellman), considering that he’s on the outs with Jenna, and we know he hates Jason. And if Garrett did start that fire, then Smokey the Bear would not be pleased with him.

Why he might not be “A”: We see someone — presumably “A” — placing a badge near Jason’s house in an apparent attempt to set Garrett up, and if that’s indeed the case, then Garrett obviously isn’t “A.” Then again, it’s never quite that easy to rule out “A” suspects on this show, is it?

Suspect #4: Noel Kahn
Why he might be “A”: He wasn’t in the episode, but his name came up, with the girls reminding us that we never knew why he suddenly started dating Jenna. Maybe killing her was his plan all along? Also, we’ve seen Noel and Alison (Sasha Pieterse) bickering in flashbacks, so it’s possible that Noel and Jason had problems, too, perhaps leading Noel to frame Jason. Anyway, just because the girls of Rosewood swoon for this guy doesn’t mean we have to.

Why he might not be “A”: He’s definitely sketchy, but he lacks a clear motive at this point, as it’s not clear that he truly hated Alison or Jenna. And regardless of whether he started that fire, the one thing we know Noel wasn’t doing that night was shopping for swimwear (since we know he prefers to bathe au naturel).
